Title
MAPDAM

Description
MAPDAM – Mapping Archaeological Damage in the Tartus Region (Syria) is a research project funded by the European Union – Next Generation EU through the PRIN 2022 call supported by MUR.
The project aims to document, analyse and map damage affecting archaeological heritage in the Tartus Governorate, with particular attention to the archaeological site of Amrit. MAPDAM integrates remote sensing, archival research and field documentation within a GIS-based research infrastructure designed to monitor archaeological sites and assess the risks affecting cultural heritage in rapidly transforming landscapes.
A central outcome of the project is the development of the MAPDAM WebGIS, an open-access platform that integrates archaeological data, satellite-based damage assessment and published documentation within a relational geodatabase. The system allows users to visualise archaeological sites, monuments and documented disturbances through an interactive map interface.
The platform provides the scientific community and heritage authorities with an innovative digital tool for archaeological monitoring, spatial analysis and heritage management. In particular, the WebGIS includes a digital archaeological map of the site of Amrit, where monuments, excavation areas and published archaeological evidence have been integrated into a unified geospatial framework accessible online.
